Case Study Part 1

On Saturday I worked with a client in London. Both he and his Dad have already written about their experience on an online forum and are keen for me to use them as a case study. I have sent this to them for approval before posting.

Here is an outline of Charlie’s situation:

He has been bullied physically, regularly, over a 2 year period. Specifically, he was being beaten up by large groups of boys. The bullies would pre-arrange what they were going to do to him and would wait in ambush. He was also suffering from cyber-bullying. On a social networking site other pupils at his school were being encouraged to join in with the physical bullying. The verbal bullying he received was often insulting his brother or his Mum which was very hurtful to him.

Like a great many children, Charlie chose not to tell his parents. Instead, he chose to suffer in silence. He discovered that telling his teachers didn’t work and didn’t want to worry his Mum and Dad. When his Dad found a footprint on his shirt the truth came out. The school, well aware of the situation, were still unwilling/unable to help.

“Appropriate actions in accordance with school policies and procedures have been taken.”

I often hear statements like this one. Notice that there is no mention of having solved the problem. As long as the school follows their policy they feel that they have done what is required. The results of what they do don’t seem to be the priority.

So Charlie and his Dad decided to book me for a some training. In my next post I’ll explain what I did during the session and I’ll give my perspective on how it went. Later, Charlie and his Dad will give feedback on how they felt it went. Also, after we give Charlie some time to test out his new techniques and strategies we’ll find out what results he has achieved.
